Swaraj Trophy
Swaraj Trophy: Maniyoor Secures First Place in the District
Maniyoor Gram Panchayat has secured the first place in Kozhikode district in the Swaraj Trophy awarded by the Government of Kerala for excellence in local governance. The award is given by evaluating the performance of 941 panchayats across the state for the year 2023–24.
Maniyoor won the award due to its exceptional performance in various sectors, including the Garbage-Free Nava Kerala project, agricultural initiatives, women and child welfare programs, welfare schemes for persons with disabilities and senior citizens, the Net-Zero Carbon project, and the enhancement of its own revenue. Innovative projects such as the "Comprehensive Health and Sports Program," "Rising Maniyoor," and the "Uyare Comprehensive Education Project" have also been successfully implemented.
In the waste management sector, the panchayat has established the district's largest Material Collection Facility (MCF). Income-generating projects for the Haritha Karma Sena—such as ring compost units, production of doormats from old clothes, and a catering unit—have been implemented. Other initiatives include a 'Take a Break' rest stop building equipped with an observatory, the "Collector's at School" program, and the placement of bins and bottle booths in public spaces.
To provide improved services to the public, the Gram Panchayat office was renovated, and an efficient front office system was introduced. Maniyoor also ranked first in the district for generating the highest number of 100-work days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).
Furthermore, work has begun on several major projects, including the Cherandathur Chira Tourism Project, Chovva Puzha Ecotourism Project, a Gender Park for women, the construction of a Buds School, and a stadium. Additionally, about 10 acres of river puramboke (government land adjacent to rivers) have been reclaimed, and their corresponding title deeds (Aadhars) are being collected
